25.04.10 Double Bill: Milo Thelwall, Andy Broderick and Bob Beagrie.

Award winning poet Bob Beagrie will be reading from his new book, The Seer Sung Husband, accompanied by musicians Andy Broderick and Kevin Howard. The Seer Sung Husband has been selected as a Read Regional title by New Writing North.

Set in 1536. England appears to be on the edge of civil war. On one side are Henry VIII and the modern, centralising Tudor state. On the other are a thousand years of tradition, custom and belief. The Seer Sung Husband tells the story of the Pilgrimage of Grace, the Northern rebellion that briefly defied the authority of Church and State. Tobias Shipton, carpenter and husband of the Yorkshire witch and soothsayer Old Mother Shipton, weaves a wyrd tale of love and loyalty, rebellion and royal retribution.

"We play music, fine honed Irish and Scottish sets that rock, tunes gifted from the 'gentry' and songs original and traditional, there may be a seasoning of tzigane. that's all i'm saying" Milo 21/04/10

Andy Broderick, guitar, vocals, is an up and coming Folk singer/songwriter originally from Kilkenny, Eire, he has settled in Saltburn and is becoming well known in the area. On Sunday he will be singing Covers and his own material in English and Gaelic.
Milo Thelwall, fiddle, guitar, vocals, ex surfbum and musical vagrant from Portrush, N.I., long sttled in Loftus is here returning to his roots and the music he loves.
Andy and Milo have been playing together regularly for the last 18 months in preparation. Enjoy.

"An antidote to the plague of anecdotes wishing they were poems."

Sean O'Brien
