Waiting Room News

Excellent Matchbox Cabaret Launch

So - Monday was good. We were sold out for a full day of wonky music... featuring some really lovely and remarkable acts, not least the stupidly talented Jeff Lewis and his awesome band, who takes originality in song to a whole new level. He was preceded by the lovely Janey BomBaney - who had already taken originality in song to a whole new level with her mechanical hats to accompany her sideways shantys... and so the day went, with Joe and Helen Cattle and Cane Hammil, Rosie Lalor, Old Muggins, Citizen Zeitgeist and The Vainglorious, Andy Broderick, Dressed Like Wolves, Shahaf Ifhar, and JB Butterfield and Dean Kitching and his Hang Drum (all enjoying our delish festival food by the way) and contributing to a kick start our exciting new run of shows...

And that run continues tonight!..

The superb roadhouse Sweetback Sisters play a sold-out show at The Waiting Room tonight...

And then on Sunday (September 2nd)... SETH FAERGOLZIA + SOUND IT OUT!!!

We have the whirlwind Seth Faergolzia - of Dufus fame - and with the same kind of bloodline as fellow Newyorkers Jeffrey Lewis and Thomas Truax (see September 9th)

And preceding Seth on Sunday - would you believe! - We have the greatest documentary ever made about a record shop, and about Stockton, or about anything we can think of in any case, when we show Jeanie Finlay's superb award winning film Sound It Out (From 7.15pm).

It's about Sound It Out - the last record shop in Teesside.

+ Tom's bringing along a table top record store to our event on Sunday.

TWO FOR ONE!

For one week only we're offering our mailing listers two tickets for the price of one, for this Sunday's event.

BOOK HERE NOW! (Each ticket bought admits 2 people).

PLUS The Africa Express - with Damon Albarn

Also we thought you might like to know about this, if you didn't already.... Here's a link to this special olympic collaboration between a dazzling array of African and Western musicians - all aboard a noisy train, which stops at Middlesbrough on Monday (quite a coup for Boro!)

Here's a link to tickets on the Ten Feet Tall site

Alright! So lots of music and love there - next week we concentrate on food, with the last week of our current Summer Menu - before we set about autumn, with a beautiful haggis in the pipeline...
