Waiting Room News
Aright… it’s been a while – we’ve been distracted doing up the flat above The Waiting Room… they bog you down - projects like that.
In the mean time – we’ve hosted the consummate Stewart Lee. We must extend a huge thank you to Stewart and to the excellent Simon Munnery for coming to The Waiting Room – they don’t have to do trendy gigs such as ours, as between them they can pretty much fill civic buildings and fusty theatres and get paid twice as much.
The Waiting Room audience was all but blown away seeing the best in the world number forty one comedian in Britain, and leading lights of the intellectual circuit so close up and personal like.
THIS SUNDAY WE HOST THE BEST IN THE WORLD NUMBER ONE FOLK FIDDLER IN ENGLAND!
THE LEGENDARY DAVE SWARBRICK!!
Dave Swarbrick returns for a solo performance following his charm-filled appearance here in September with Martin Carthy. We got some cracking deco wall lights off him last time around - so the atmosphere of the Waiting Room back room should be that much more chintz-glitzy this time around. It is often quoted that Dave Swarbrick is "the most influential (British) fiddle player bar none", and there is no doubt that he is a leading interpreter of traditional British music, since being an initiator of the electric folk music with Fairport Convention in the 60's.
That’s Sunday February 28th from 7pm. £15 entry.
AND THEN ON MARCH 7th – don’t let this one pass you by…
Nick Pynn
in concert
“Consistently the best thing I see at Edinburgh Fringe” Stewart Lee.
Nick Pynn is palpably a genius. An incredible abstract composer he creates a wonderful symphony of sound that is warm and accessible, yet mesmerizingly complex with looped rhythms and multifarious wires sticking out of wine glasses and typewriters f'rigsample, all orchestrated around his hugely instinctive fiddle play.
This is Nick’s first solo visit to The Waiting Room, he can normally be found together with the Hat Lady - Jane Bombane – at Bombane’s in Brighton – the Belgian Café with that is filled with automata – with which The Waiting Room is twinned.
That’s Sunday March 7th from 7pm. £7.50 entry.
There you go. People have started booking for Mother’s Day on March 14th also.
...Also – Flat to Let – above The Waiting Room – 2 bedrooms – one big, one small, big sitting room, pokey bathroom, new galley kitchen – the strains of the likes of Dave Swarbrick through your window and floorboards of a Sunday night. Phone The Waiting Room if you are interested and ask for Luke.
