Waiting Room News

The amazing Thomas Truax returns to The Waiting Room this Sunday - with his completed new album (see letter below). Thomas has delivered some of the most spellbinding shows to have graced The Waiting Room over the past few years.

Thomas Truax

There's a fine line between the unique and the insane, and it's a line which New Yorker Thomas Truax (pronounced troo-aks) straddles with his chin held high and ' The Hornicator ' firmly glued to his left ear. His collection of home made instruments look as though plucked straight from the mind of Tim Burton and are combined with loop pedals, guitars and lashings of imagination to create one of the most unusual and entertaining live shows you will ever see.

The Guardian: "When he performs, it is a spectacle - the originality and seeming impossibility of what he does is much of the appeal."

And setting the scene and playing us out we have legenary leicester free-form jazz outfit

Hopscotch Boulevard

Hopscotch

Sleazy Speakeasy Jazz Musak from Leicester's Hopscotch Boulevard. Drums and organ - without the bingo and strippers - Delving deep into the separate bags of Jimmy Smith, Blue Note-era jazz and late-1960s lounge-style freakbeat.

Double bill from 7pm. Cover charge £7.50

Dear Friends,

There is a paradigm shift going on in the music business, and tonight
I'm launching an exciting new experiment which will help facilitate my
new album release that I'm hoping you'll participate in.

The album, which I started writing and recording over 3 years ago
(before I took a detour into 'Songs From The Films Of David Lynch') is
now finished and it's called 'Sonic Dreamer'. I don't want to sound too
immodest but I'm real excited about it. I think it may be the best work
I've done. It's got some of the most adventurous, groovy weird songs
I've ever cooked up, and also some of the most restrained, candid and
melodic. Others are album-only, go-crazy-in-the-studio creations that I
wouldn't even try to replicate live. It features special guests and a
new instrument called the Scary Aerial that will be making it's touring
debut this month in the UK (see dates below).

Like a gleaming UFO in the sunset, Sonic Dreamer sits smoking on the pad
ready for launch, yet sadly just short of the fuel it needs for a
proper lift-off. You probably know that, thanks to the internet, there's
been an ever-increasing shift away from the old 'music industry' towards
a more DIY/ direct contact-with-your-audience approach for artists, and
in this spirit I'm reaching out to you via a new site called
Pledgemusic. Basically how it works is that by pledging to pre-order an
advance copy of Sonic Dreamer, you help me fund it's release. (If the
campaign goal isn't reached, nobody gets charged, so it's a no-risk
situation) There's also a whole range of very special incentives I've
been arranging, and a percentage of funds raised goes to a chosen
charity. Among the rewards I'm offering are:

*a very few more MINI SISTER SPINSTERS which I'll individually build
*Original artwork and sketches, signed CDs,
*Personalized acoustic recordings
*Limited Edition T-shirts, Live Shows and more.

To learn more about it visit: http://www.pledgemusic.com/projects/thomastruax

Additionally pledgers will have exclusive access to a few special
things like videos, a tour diary and photographs from the road while I'm
on tour in the UK most of May. Speaking of which:

9 May, Sun: Stockton, Waiting Room 9 Station Road, Eaglescliffe,
Stockton on Tees, TS16 0BU
