Edinburgh Comedy Award Best Newcomer 2006 and main award nominee for 2010. Come see the comedian who the Metro describe as 'what great comedy should be' and The Daily Telegraph call 'one of the the most exciting female comics around'. Josie Long began performing stand-up comedy at 14, winning the BBC New Comedy Awards at the age of 17. Since then, The Queen Of Whimsy has risen to the top of the British comedy ladder, regularly appearing on BBC comedy programming.
PLUS support from the local: Peg Powler Gallery LIVE
"The Bad Art School" is a special live event in support of the mighty Josie Long. AJ and Rebecca will be joined by special guests to explore the world of wonky drawing and take part in fast and furious drawing stunts.
(Make that 8 remaining tickets, someone just grabbed 2 - via the telephone).
SO THAT IT'S FAIR FOR EVERYONE anybody who has already paid £16 for their ticket can have £4 off a ticket to next week's EXCLUSIVE one-off show by best-selling Author RICHARD MILWARD. You can't say fairer than that.
Richard Milward is the author of 'Apples' and 'Ten Storey Love Song', two twisted love stories following the lives of young folk in Middlesbrough, published by Faber&Faber in 2007 and 2009 respectively. 'Apples' was adapted for the stage in 2010, picking up an award at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival; and is soon to be made into a film.
In a one-off event for Matchbox Cabaret, Richard will be reading from both novels, with musical accompaniment from Gavin Smith. Richard has been known to adopt obscure, psychedelic headgear when performing, while Gavin's sublime guitar and effects have appeared in various bands in Teesside, over the years.
Think Irvine Welsh and Jack Kerouac conceiving a lovechild whilst listening to Mogwai. In a Middlesbrough bedroom.
A Q&A session with Richard will follow the readings. The Brucy Ripper Band support. It's from 7pm on July 10th - tickets are £8.
