STANLEY BRINKS AND THE FLYING KANIKS

Stanley and his musical collaborator in chief the charming, French singer Freschard are back to The Waiting Room again following the Berlin-based duos memorable show here last year. 

And they're back with a bang! and a band!

An original member of the Herman Düne trio, and with a big following across Europe, the UK and the US, Stanley/Andre Herman Dune has played shows under various other names: Ben Dope, Ben Haschish, Klaus Bong, John Trawling and Lord Stanislas.

His band The Flying Kaniks are a bunch of Norwegian hipsters playing trombone, fiddle and double bass– promising a spectacle of good-time music crossed with a folksy calypso. He’s been championed by the likes of Jeff Lewis (who even wrote a song about how Herman Dune were better when Andre was still in them) and in 2010 he teamed up with much-loved UK indie-folkers The Wave Pictures to release the album ‘Stanley Brinks and The Wave Pictures’ (Ciao Ketchup).

We've been making The Waiting Room even more gorgeous this week... We're improving the entrance and space as you enter the restaurant by removing the stairs that did go up to the flat above, and putting in a new porch - and then repainting - and putting in a few different pieces of furnitue/(and a place to hang coats etc.).

The major structural work and  much of the decoration is done already - in an impressive day and two nights work!.. 'Though we will be finishing off and making small adjustments over the next week or two.

 

We hope you like what we've done to the place, it will be a little bit echoey for the next few days, but we will still have our familiar cosy atmosphere when the work is complete.

 

All of which is very exciting.

 

(If you do come to the restaurant in the next few days, we will thank you for your understanding while we wait for plaster to dry before we finish our painting on Monday - and so on.)

The really big news though is that Stanley Brinks and The Flying Kaniks will perform at The Waiting Room on Sunday May 13th.

 

Stanley was Andre Herman Dune, of the amazing global band and John Peel favourite - Herman Dune.

 

Stanley Brinks and The Flying Kankis includes french singer Freschard and Norwegian trombone, fiddle and basshipsters - and will be the best good-time music you are likely to have thrumbed your toes and fingers to all year.

This is one of the only events we will be putting on until the autumn, and will be a real party.

 

We have a couple of other anouncements coming shortly, and may even try to tweet them first if we can come to terms with Twitter. (If we ever do get the hang of it we are @WaitingRoomVR (like Vegetarian Restaurant and Virtual Reality) Similarly we are The Waiting Room VR on facebook I think - for if we ever come to terms with that as well.

STANLEY BRINKS - aka Andre Herman Dune is appearing at The Waiting Room on Sunday May 13th - in a special exclusive show - with his band of happy travellers The Flying Kaniks.

From 7pm, tickets are £7 advance/from The Waiting Room website, or £9 on the night (if still available).

The Flying Kaniks include French singer Freschard - plus double bass, banjos, trombones and fiddle by a bunch of Norwegian hipsters.

Stanley makes beautifully intimate, uplifting, melodically charged songs, best of all when sitting around with his audience, in a kitchen, living room or The Waitng Room back room.

We are on a break from having gigs at The Waiting Room until August 27th when our new run of shows begins. We could not resist this show though - to tide us over, and put the world to rights.
